With JE 5k using the broadcasters EPG (EIT):-
eit2mei_cttc - has the advantage of cleaning up (based on specific knowledge of local channels) the information before storing it into the Freeview.mei. Also the default options are Australia oriented. By default it is best if you set up a "Scheduled Scan" watch timer for 5am each day (eg go to firmware/native Timer Setting, Insert new Entry, Record=Off, Mode=Every Day, WakeupTime=05:00, Duration 30 minutes or so), this surfs your channels to make sure the EPG for each is being collected. If you worried about very late changes (ie on the actual day) by channels also have "Background Scan" on and it might pick up the changes provided you are on or change to that channel.
eit2mei - same as above just without the Australian stuff I have added.
EPG2MEI - Newer better in some ways (tells other TAPS about changes), only works with some firmwares (probably 2006-2007) and UK oriented (and they broadcast EPG information for other networks on their channels so channel surfing or some sort of auto channel changing will be needed to fill the EPG for all channels in Australia)
JE V17 - Is still dumb about detecting EPG changes, but has EPG Reload Interval, so you can set to get JE to reload the EPG every x minutes. Note with its "MEI FILE" setting it will only load one file so if you change between EPG2MEI and eit2mei make sure you delete the old EPG.MEI/Freeview.mei files so the new one will be used.
Advanced MEI Stuff:- You can also do merge type stuff as well (eg take broadcast EIT mei file, merge it with online guides then produce a new merged MEI file).
I also suggest checking out MyStuff TAP (for non masterpiece users) as an alternative to JustEPG/UKAS.
This reminds me I have written an experimental TAP that uses the spare tuner to fill the EPG so you don't have to change channels I will start a new thread in case people want that.

testing JE17, with eit source so that it will update during the day. Like the additional pages and dont mind the jpp skin.
I have run eit2mei_cttc to force populate the tables, which works well. But the epg description (top 4 lines) is only showing a couple of lines of info and is obviously truncated (ie in the middle of a word) yet during the eit2mei process, the full description appears as part of the std toppy epg. I believe i have the DescriptExtender patch installed as part of a patch pack. Any ideas ? MyInfo B5.2 Logging settings etc on 23/8/2010 at 21:14 System ID: 416 TV Output: Type = PAL, Video = YUV, RF Channel = 36 Reported firmware version: TF-NPTA 5.13.04P dated Sep 05 2006 Base firmware version: 5.13.04 |

ok. so I didnt have the De patch installed, just a basic precompiled
firmware. installed the De patch into RAM but that didnt help (made it worse actually). Using the DescrExtend TAP fixed the issue. all looks good now with 5 lines of Description. (im using the old 2rows x 3 columns of data at the moment x 3 pages at the moment.)
Love the ability to reload epg using the Slow button. |

Sounds like you haven't. You posted a partial MyInfo log file, it should go on to say "Installed patch string: ....". If it doesn't have De you haven't. You must have it (preferred) or the DescriptionExtender TAP running, or (more) descriptions will be truncated.
You also could look at the Freeview.mei and see if they are truncated in that.
