Hi all,

I bought a 7150 for my mum a few months back and whilst she mostly loves it, when things go wrong she wants to throw it out the window. There are two specific problems:

When she is watching a recorded show and fast-forwards, no sound can be heard for about 30 seconds after pressing play. Sometimes even then, the sound is out of sync with the video.

Occassionally whilst watching a video, the player will freeze then restart with a message "Verifying files and folders". If she's recording something at the same time, that recording will be totally lost. If she goes back to the show she was watching, she has to actually fast-forward past the point where it crashed, otherwise it will happen again.

Is there any way to fix these problems?

One option is when all the recorded programs have been viewed then reformat the internal hard drive via the menu.

Given mum's rate of tv-watching, that's not likely to happen any time soon. Why would that solve the problem, anyway?

My line-of-thought was that if the HDD had any bad sectors a reformat might lock those out of use. Whether this actually happens given the fast speed that a reformat is done is unknown.

The reference to jumping over the bad bit and all was then OK had me thinking possibly a bad sector. On the other hand it could have just been a 'glitch' in that spot in the recording.

Further, seeing "Verifying files and folders" does point to a possible HDD problem so a reformat wouldn't go astray.
