Just to advise that I now have a large supply of the KA1M0680RB-YDTU IC's in stock.

These are the formed IC's with 2 bent/extended pins, same as the one in the toppy.

Please message me if you need any.

Handy tip for the day...

I'm not a practicing electronics repair dude, so any time i have to measure something with the mains connected, i slap on the old kitchen dishwashing gloves to prevent me from touching anything i shouldn't by accident. I've been shocked once before, not planning on making a habit of it.

Umm ... it looks like putting you finger into a light bulb socket to get that particular hair style does have side effects. Smile

Just to advise that I now have ONE ONLY fully refurbished Toppy PSU in my work shop for sale...

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread for it or not, but it is a Topfield TF5000PVRT PSU so relates to this thread.

The PSU came out of a machine with a totally dead mainboard, the board was damaged by lightning through the antenna, I suspect anyway, as the top right corner of the board has suffered servere damage, and the tuners are fried. The unit is scrap but the PSU is 100%.

So I have refurbished it with new Caps to avoid the inevitable occuring and it has been tested for 2 days in another Toppy machine, working perfectly!

Anyone in need of a spare PSU please message me and we can negotiate a price for it.

As mentioned, it is 100%, tested, and refurbished.

I seem to have the regular capacitor problem which peppers this forum and would like some (physical) help to confirm diagnosis and replace. Symptoms in my Toppy TF5000 PvRT which has run 24*7 for a few years, recently with top covered by game console!
Very early PVR problem was the appearance of black and white bars which appeared from the top of the LCDTV. Switching off and back on  fixed this but they reappeared after time. Not sure if this was related to the subsequent problems.
Recent symptom is that the PVR randomly switches on and off. You can hear the hard drive fire up and shut down. Initially this reset to normal if the machine is left to cool and then switched back on. All recorded programs were then intact so I assume the HDD is still in good order. Now cannot access the HDD at all; Machine remains in the Menu option and the recording option and organizing favourites choices are greyed out . It is not possible to exit Menu to return to normal use.
Whilst it is apart I would also like to upgrade the HDD size.
I am in Northcote Melbourne
Anyone want to help?

Send Warkus a PM. He's the master of PSU repairs.

Hi Mikrobe
As Phil has mentioned you could get the "refurbished" supply from Warkus or if you want I can repair and update the HDD but I'm down Frankston way.
PM me and we can take this offline.
Regards Gary

Well, my chips from warkus arrived today, and i promptly replaced the switching IC on my topfield psu, and nothing happened.... I was getting better voltages out now (used to be about 10% of the expected output, now around 30%). I tested my C9, wasn't shorted, but just for giggles, i ran down to Jaycar and grabbed a Suntan 47uF 63v (shudder) and replaced C9. Low and behold, the psu fires up to expected voltages again!

So, thanks for all the help you guys!

Glad the chips arrived and you got it working now...

HOWEVER...

I will send you a good quality 47uf cap in the mail, no cost! Free!

The only condition is, PLEASE take the Suntan cap you put in out and bin it...

Sorry dude, but they are absolute rubbish, and you will do your unit no favours by leaving it in there.

Your good quality cap will arrive within a week, Free! Please take my advice and replace it with the one I send to you...
